At Ballet Bridges, we are proud to offer programs designed to bring the joy of movement to people of all abilities. Adaptive dance modifies traditional dance lessons to meet the goals of individuals with diverse physical, cognitive, and developmental needs, while building motor skills, coordination, and body awareness. These classes are specifically structured so that dancers can learn and express themselves in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

Adaptive dance helps remove barriers that may prevent participation in a traditional dance setting, allowing a student to experience creativity, self-awareness, and connection with others who share the same passion. These programs allow dancers to become integrated into a community that celebrates their capabilities and love of the arts and encourages them to grow at their own pace.

Adaptive dance brings a multitude of benefits to dancers that allow them to enjoy and learn from the lessons. Through these classes, students strengthen motor skills, balance, and flexibility, as well as muscle control and coordination. Cognitively, these classes help develop focus, independence, and problem-solving skills - dexterities that are increasingly vital for school-aged children. Most importantly, adaptive dance fosters confidence and instills self-love and appreciation in each child. Dancers are allowed to express their emotions through movement and explore new styles without the fear of pressure or judgment. At the end of the day, they gain a sense of achievement and pride that transforms how they see themselves and their abilities.

For many with disabilities, social interactivity is equally as important as the movement. Because of this, not only do individuals receive dance instruction, but they are also provided with the opportunity to connect with others, make friendships, and feel a sense of belonging. The Ballet Bridges Adaptive Dance Program strives to create a welcoming environment where each person is respected and feels valued.
